Devo ammetterlo, appena vista la primissima foto del primo ritratto ufficiale della duchessa di Cambridge pubblicata dal Dailymail la mia reazione è stata: "Oh my Gosh!"
Questa è Kate? In quell'immagine facevo davvero fatica a vedere la bellissima e luminosa duchessa di Cambridge, col suo sorriso smagliante e la pelle abbronzata e perfetta. Chi era quella signora di mezza età, scura in volto e dalle rughe d'espressione piuttosto accentuate? Poi però ho avuto modo di vedere altre immagini del ritratto, più grandi, da una migliore angolazione e mi sono, in parte, ricreduta.


I must admit it, when I've first seen  the very first pictures of the first official portrait of the Duchess of Cambridge published by Dailymail my reaction was: "Oh my Gosh!"
Is this Kate? In that picture I was really struggling to see the beautiful and bright Duchess of Cambridge, with her smile and tanned perfect skin. Who was that middle-aged lady, with grim and wrinkles fairly marked? But then I got to see more of this portrait, larger and from a better angle images and I've, partly, changed my mind.

Se Kate, laureata in storia dell'arte, lo ha approvato e ha ringraziato l'artista dicendo di essere "emozionata" a grata per quel primo ritratto ufficiale definendolo "bellissimo" forse un motivo c'è!
If Kate, that has a degree in art history, approved and thanked the artist saying she was "excited" and  grateful for that first official portrait, calling it "beautiful" maybe there was a reason!

Kate ha posato per due volte tra il maggio e il giugno 2012 per il controverso artista Paul Emsley: la prima volta nel suo studio a Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire ed in seguito a Kensington Palace. L'artista ha preparato anche una serie di scatti della duchessa ed è stata proprio lei ha scegliere quello da cui è stato poi tratto il dipinto.
Kate posed twice between May and June 2012 for the controversial artist Paul Emsley, the first time in his studio in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire and then in Kensington Palace. The artist has also prepared a series of shots of the Duchess and Kate herself choose the one which was then part of the painting.

La foto, secondo Kate, rispecchiava perfettamente la Kate-reale e non la Kate-ufficiale. L'artista ha detto che alla duchessa era piaciuta particolarmente la luce di quello scatto, il modo in cui i capelli le incorniciavano il viso e poi quel sorriso non sorriso che fa tanto Gioconda (cit. Velina) e che tante critiche ha suscitato.

The photo, according to Kate, perfectly reflected the real-Kate and not the Official-Kate. The artist said that the Duchess loved especially the light of that shot, the way her hair framed her face and the enigmatic smile that reminds so much tha famous MonaLisa (cit. Velina) and that instead caused so many critics

Il mio giudizio personale? Il ritratto mi piace: in particolare gli occhi blu-verdi che visti da vicino sono davvero stupendi e profondi. Mi piacciono i capelli ed in generale la parte superiore del viso. Trovo invece non molto convincente il naso, troppo grande rispetto al nasino della duchessa, e le rughe d'espressione intorno alla bocca troppo accentuate. La luce cupa del quadro e i colori "spenti" hanno sicuramente penalizzato il ritratto, donando a Kate un'aria seria e  "invecchiata".

My personal opinion? I like the portrait : in particular her blue-green eyes that in a close up look really beautiful and deep. I like the hair and in general the upper part of the face. I don't like the nose that seems too big compared to the nose of the Duchess, and the wrinkles around the mouth are too marked. The dark lighting of the picture and the colors "off" have certainly affected the portrait, giving Kate  a more serious and  "aged" look.

Un'immagine che strideva molto con la freschezza e la vivacità della duchessa che ieri, ad appena 12 settimane (circa) di gravidanza e dopo un'assenza di un mese dalle scene, a causa di un'acuta forma di iperemesi gravidica, è apparsa in tutto il suo splendore.
An image that squeaked a lot with the freshness and vividness of the Duchess yesterday, just 12 weeks (approximately) pregnant that after an absence of one month from the scene, due to a severe  form of hyperemesis gravidarum, appeared in all her splendor.

Kate ha avuto la possibilità di visionare per prima il ritratto esposto da ieri e fino a settembre, alla National Portrait Gallery. Quando le è stato mostrato non c'era nessuno con lei mentre l'artista Paul Emsey aspettava in una stanza a fianco con moglie e figlia.
Kate had the chance to be the first to see the portrait, unveiled yesterday and on until September 2013 at the National Portrait Gallery. When it was shown to tyhe duchess  no one was there with her as the artist Paul Emsey expected in the next room with his wife and daughter.

E' rimasta in silenzio ad osservare per una decina di minuti prima di congratularsi con il pittore per il suo lavoro "brilliant".
She has been quietly observing for about ten minutes before congratulate to the artist for his "brilliant" work.

Oltre a Kate anche William e la Famiglia Middleton hanno avuto la possibilità di visionare il ritratto in anteprima ieri mattina presto, prima venisse svelato e letteralmente "dato in pasto" al mondo intero.
In addition to Kate, also William and the Middleton Family had the opportunity to have a private preview of the picture yesterday morning, before it was revealed to the entire world.

Per l'occasione Kate ha indossato un abito che avevamo appena intravisto, nascosto, sotto al cappotto in un altro paio di occasioni: il ‘Sofie Rae’ dress rosso scuro firmato Whistles. Kate ha accessoriato l'abito con una cinta nera di velluto, clutch nera e scarpe Episode ‘Angel’ in velluto nero.

Ieri però non è stato solo il ritratto a fare la sua primissima uscita pubblica, in qualche scatto, se si guarda davvero davvero bene si può notare un leggerissimo e tenerissimo accenno di pancino.
Yesterday, however, was not only the portrait to make his very first public appearance, in some shots, if you look really really close you can see a little and tender baby bump.
